INTRODUCTION

iNaqittaq offers a convenient solution for typing in Inuktitut using the Nunavik syllabary. The font and keyboard provided are specifically designed for the Nunavik dialect of the Inuktitut language, spoken by indigenous communities across the polar regions.

THE KEYBOARD

The Nunavik syllabic keyboard layout draws inspiration from the IBM Selectric typewriter layout of the 1970s and the Macintosh (US-System 6) layout, ensuring consistent mapping of syllabic characters across different computer platforms and encodings. This keyboard, popular on Mac OS and Windows for many years, enables users familiar with those systems to seamlessly transition their typing skills to Apple devices like iPhones, iPods, or iPads.

THE FONT

The included font, AiPaiNutaaq, is fully Unicode-compliant and integrated with our keyboard. Additionally, AiPaiNutaaq is compatible with various applications that allow font selection, such as Pages, Mail, and other office software.

TYPING

To input syllabic text, users must activate the Inuktitut Keyboard for Nunavik by selecting it from the International button (featuring a globe) on the keyboard. Toggling the Caps key switches between syllabics and the Roman writing system.
